The presenters for the meeting have graciously made their presentations available to us to distribute. They are as follows:
Leah Jenson, JD
Equal Justice Works Fellow and Attorney at Community Legal Aid Services (CLAS). Graduate of U Akron School of Law w/a JD and Brigham Young University w/a BS in Microbiology. As an EJW, had the opportunity to develop CLAS’s first Medical Legal Partnership (MLP)with assistance from previously organized MLP’s throughout the state. Community Legal Aid Services in the Akron area is currently partnered with Akron Children’s Hospital, focused mostly w/the Locust Pediatric Care Group, although they do get referrals from Adolescent Medicine and Neurology (I’ve been told). Attorneys work with the MLP from the beginning and have been able to assist in changes and growth along the way.

- Brief history on MLP developments nationwide and statewide
- Benefits of an MLP – health and legal implications
- Possible MLP outcomes – depends on MLP development in part
- Potential MLP developments – national changes & state opportunities

Kimberly A. Spoonhower, MD
Dr. Spoonhower earned her medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland. She completed her residency in pediatrics and fellowship in pediatric pulmonary medicine at Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital, Cleveland. Dr. Spoonhower is board certified in pediatric pulmonology by the American Board of Pediatrics. She is a member of the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society.
Dr. Spoonhower presented two topics to the group: the Akron Children's Hospital Inpatient Asthma Pathway, and the preliminary findings of the Quality Network which is sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to improve asthma care. This care network within the Ohio Chapter Network of AAP includes 13 practices in the state. She presented some of the preliminary data that is available for this year. She also shared Akron Children's Hospital's Allergy Action Plan and Epi Pen Permission form for schools.
Tonya Winders, Market Development Leader, Phadia
Ms. Winders presented information on:
- Role of allergy in asthma
- Importance of NIH guideline-based care
- Including trigger identification
- Including patient education on targeted exposure reduction
- Importance of coordination of care among all disciplines & primary care
*Ms. Winders agreed to give an unbiased presentation that was informational.
